I have learned so much over the past year about creating an online presence. There is so very much to know and most people who start their own businesses really don't know how to create, maximize and leverage their online presence.

I will give you just a summary of what I've learned over the past year from reading, masterminding and coaching. I know I have only scratched the surface but if I can in any way cut down on your learning curve by sharing the things I've already learned, then that's what I want to do.

Niche Marketing

This is the first thing you learn when creating an online presence. It's about narrowing your focus. It is not possible to be all things to all people and when you try, you end up watering down your message and in essence, being nothing to no one. This probably was the hardest lesson I learned. I fought the whole niche marketing idea because I believed that my niche was choice theory and I know choice theory applied to every possible life situation. While I still believe that this is true, I need to focus my marketing efforts on a much more specific and targeted niche. While I am still refining this, I have decided to market to two basic niches. The first is small to midsize companies who are interested in creating, inspiring and leveraging diversity in the workforce and the second is managers interested in learning Empowered Leadership to increase production, improve quality and reduce employee turnover.

What is your niche? You know you have a good one if you can identify how to find them. You need to know what they read, what entertainment they gravitate toward, and what groups they belong to. It is your goal to ultimately obtain a mailing list or email list to be able to market to your niche. If you can obtain a list, then you have a well-narrowed niche.

Creating a List

This is perhaps the most important asset to an online business—the email list of potential customers and prospects. When doing business online, it is critically important to capture prospects' email opt-in addresses so you can begin to market to them. The best way to get people to give you their email address is to offer them something compelling. This is intricately tied to your niche. Find out something they are looking for—create a giveaway product in exchange for getting their email address. You can see how critical it is to have correctly identified your niche market because if you offer a list of cat owner's information on how to train their dogs, you can see how that might not entice them to provide you with their email address. It must be information they are hungry for.

The opt-in part is also important. You can't just go add people's email addresses to your mailing list. That is considered spamming. They must have the opportunity to opt-in, as well as the opportunity to remove their address from your database. Don't ruin your business before it gets started by tainting your reputation unnecessarily.

Sales Letters

Sales letters are very important. If there is one thing I'd like to outsource, it would be sales letters. They are not fun for me to do but they may be fun for you. There are several things to be considered in a sales letter. First of all, research shows that the longer a sales letter is the better. It must have a captivating title. It must be filled with information about WIIFM—What's In It For Me, meaning your readers or potential customers. This is again tied to the first point about niche marketing. Your sales letter will be most effective when you can write as if you know the mind of the reader. You must understand their pain or speak to a goal they have. How can you be specific enough if you haven't narrowed your niche? You can't.

The letter should be crafted with both the skimming reader and the detail reader in mind. This means making main points subheadings so the person who skims can get the general idea of what you are talking about just by skimming the headings. However, include sufficient detail to convince the person who is interested in lots of facts and statistics. You don't want to write your letter with only one group in mind because then you will lose out on the possibility of selling to the group you omitted.

Create products and services your niche is hungry for and then tell them why they must have your product to either solve their problem or help them become more successful.

Sales letters must have an urgent call to action. Create some type of advantage for those who act NOW. Research shows that even if a person is interested in what you are offering, if they don't act as they are reading your letter and decide to wait for another day, they never come back to it. Get them to act now by making it worth their while. You can even offer an extra incentive for the first 20 people who respond. It's up to you.

Articles

Writing articles is a tremendous way to get your name out there to the general public. I write at least two articles each month. I used to have my virtual assistant submit each one to online article banks individually. Now, for $100, I submit my article to I-Snare and they do the submitting for me. The purpose of writing is to help readers get to know you and what you have to offer. This will help increase the traffic to your website and it will be a targeted audience, meaning those who are already interested in what you have to say.

These are just some of the things you want to give attention to as you develop your presence on the World Wide Web. My next article will focus on writing press releases, generating search engine traffic and getting listed in various online directories. Then, we will discuss writing a blog, producing an online newsletter, creating a sales funnel and embarking on joint ventures.

With the digital age upon us, personal contact is becoming less popular.  everyday. Cellphones,e-mail,voice mail and blogs almost make actually seeing a person unnecessary.
The main problem with digital communication is, we tend to forget all about etiquette.
The internet is a world within itself, with that, there are certain guidelines that we should follow. The list I have compiled is not in any particular order.

1.  Don't' assume everyone knows everything.
We are still very much in the infancy stage of the internet, that being said, everyday thousands of people surf  the internet for the first time. That fact alone is astounding.  It almost seems hard to believe that there are millions and millions of people that have never surfed the web or even checked their e-mail.   That means, the obvious things that most people know about computers, is not known by everyone.  I clearly remember when someone took the time to show me how to cut and paste, now I have cut and paste keys on my keyboard

2.  Take time to read e-mails, if not interested unsubscribe
People spend good money to send you e-mail.  We all know spam is a bad thing and as technology advances its days are truly numbered.  The email that we subscribe to by requesting info, or by purchasing something should be welcome .  Take the time to read their offer, you were interested at some point in what they had to say.  If you are no longer interested, unsubscribe from their mailing list.  Don't waste your time (or theirs) if you are not interested any longer.

3.  Respond to e-mail and blog post as soon as possible.
People that are trying to get businesses started on the internet rely on other people for a lot of different things, if someone asks you a question, answer them quickly, they may be waiting for your reply to reply to someone else.

4.   Kill em with kindness
In the digital world it is very easy to be misunderstood, without seeing facial expressions and other forms of communication in person, it is easy for someone to not realize you were making a joke or being sarcastic.

In Jim Edwards and David Garfinkel's tutorial "eBook Secrets Exposed", they take you through the process of writing and marketing an eBook, so you can make money on the internet. Instead of broad generalities on writing about a particular subject, the eBook shows you the five most important steps in finding a topic for your eBook that will be targeted to a specific market.  As they point out, you must identify your target audience, making sure there a lots of sites already selling to them because then you know people are willing to pay for the information.
Together they talk about how and find to identify Niche markets along with the top ten reasons or motivations for people to buy anything. There is lots of information on how to take topics and frame them into an eBook concept. Jim and David point out that your eBook will be purchased to solve your prospects painful problem or be a way to obtain a desirable solution.  You must know exactly who will buy your book before you write it.  They clearly take you through that process step-by-step.
Of course the main problem is always how to find the "Niche Market" that everyone always talks about.  Although Jim and David do give you ideas on how to search for one, it is still a hazy realm within the internet.  I would love for some internet guru to just list the markets that should be examined for creating eBooks.
With that one flaw noted, Mr. Edwards and Mr. Garfinkel do take you step-by-step through the process of writing an eBook that can be profitable, if you follow the steps they lay out for you in this eBook. So why would you take their advice? Jim Edwards has sold thousands of his eBooks online.  Aside from writing eBooks, he has several CD-Rom products, videos, numerous audio tapes, software packages and a newsletter with thousands of subscribers.  David Garfinkel is a copywriter and an award winning business journalist.  He was the San Francisco Bureau chief for McGraw-Hill World News.   More recently, he was the Editor in chief for "What's Online" a privately circulated Internet marketing newsletter where subscribers paid $497.00 a year.
Yanik Silver said: "Jim and David have really broken the code on what it takes to make big money with almost any eBook on the Web.  If that's what you want to do I (Yanik) can only give you one piece of advice—get this resource now!"
One of the most valuable points of "eBook Secrets Exposed" is that they try to teach you how to find a hot market for your eBook and to find Joint Venture Partners that will sell your product.  This is especially important if you don't have an internet subscriber list of your own.  They have even included email wording suggestions to send to potential JV partners.  They further explain resale rights and how to build your own list.
 "eBook Secrets Exposed" stresses how important it is to choose a topic that already has a market and has other people selling to that market.  This gives you two vital opportunities:  1) the Market is established and 2) you have the potential for multiple joint venture partners.  And why would you need joint venture partners?  Because they already have lists of people who bought their products and they just may be interested in yours.  The way to do this is mapped out in the eBook.
You will probably have to read the eBook through a few times to "get" all the points that are included, but after the second or third time you'll have a great grasp on how to write an eBook.
There is a section in the book that goes over using pay per click advertising to get conversion numbers (number of visitors to your website that purchased your eBook). Conversion numbers are used to entice Joint Venture Partners. Although this is an option, the down side is the days of the inexpensive pay per click are over, so this could cost you some money.
This eBook is very well written and packed full of information. The only other question I would have or improvement I would like to see is how to get joint venture partners in different ways when you are just starting out.  This is always a murky area.
Other than my comments on Niche Markets and finding JV Partners when you're new, "eBook Secrets Exposed" is a very concise tutorial on how to write an eBook and market it to a targeted audience. If you want to learn quickly on how to write an eBook and you want serious information on marketing, I would give this book an 8 out of a possible 10.

The purpose of this brief article is to solicit some traffic to my website http://MilesBooks.com. As a disabled author, of little means, I am unable to pour in the massive dollars necessary to make my thriller~mystery novel For Sale By Owners:FSBO a bestseller. Okay, so maybe it isn't bestseller material anyway? I have posted some Chapter Samples there to allow potential book  buyers to taste some of the flavor and meet several of my major characters.

On my website, visitors should find some features of interest, even if they do not wish to order my novel from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or anywhere else. In addition to Free Reprint Articles, information on Multiple Sclerosis, disabilities, and links to related sites and groups are included.

And, yes, there is purchase information on my other two "Out of Print" poetry books, Beacon© and Imperfections© which I am told have become "Collector's items." Again, some of my poetry and songs are on the site to read ~ if one so chooses.

I grew up in a logging camp in Eastern Oregon, Izee. It is long gone but my memory of Izee is yet with me. I have begun to write a book about my youthful adventures, "IZEE ~ Growing up in a Logging Camp," and have included some early chapters under the website heading "Work In Progress." Other authors have barrowed  from these to include in their own works. My Developing Spiritual Understanding is here also.

There are true Crime Victim's Accounts now, and there will likely be more. Guest authors are invited to submit material to be considered for inclusion.

There is even a promotional banner inviting those who wish to make some money which is worth clicking. I bought into the program and I am most delighted. With all of other the "Internet business" opportunities that I have invested, I have been disappointed. With this one, I'm not. Check it out!

Article Marketing is the hottest way of marketing your web sites, but writing does not come naturally to many people. We'll show you an easier way to start your writing career.
All through school and then maybe college or university, even as the writing became more detailed and longer.  No matter how many times you have done it, writing is probably a task that many of your have continuously avoided. Now at a time when writing articles could help your job or work, facing the job at hand can be daunting.
I'm one of those strange people that enjoy writing, but even I get stumped some times and while there are a great number of people who do like writing, there are still those who would rather walk on hot coals than write an article. So for those people and the ones who like writing and would prefer to be more prepared here are some hints and methods that might help you.
Step 1: Prepare an outline or template first.
One of the best pieces of advice that I was given, many years ago, and which I still use in my consultancy is:
"Tell them what you are going to tell them.  Tell them. Tell them why you told them."
Roughly translated into an outline this is:
• Pick a subject
• Introduce it
• Go into your detail
• Conclude as to why this was important.
Another template to think of - and one that gets published often is:
"Ten Reasons Why", "Top Ten Ideas", "Seven Solutions"
Well you get the idea.
Step 2: Pick your topic
Pick something you know about and start jotting down ideas. I find it easy to pick a temporary title sometimes other times I work on the subject and then the title just comes along on it's on.
The Top Ten is always the easiest and as it is a popular one with ezine publishers maybe you should make this your first one.
 Maybe it is something for dog lovers so you could have:
• Top 10 best ways to make sure your dog gets its walk.
• Top 10 ways to meet other dog walkers
• Top 10 best ways to raise pups
Well you get the idea.
Step 3: Headings and Summaries
The first sentence for your article, should immediately grab the attention of your reader and introduce the subject of your article.
 Many article sites ask for a summary of the article as well.  The summary is used in two places:
• On the article site as a part of the search process
• On the search engine entry that links to where the article is on the article site
So you can see that this is the place to pique the imagination of the potential reader as well as get you well placed in the search engines.
Step 4: Add the Content
You should now be in full writing mode and able to jot down the rest of the article, remembering the conclusion.  Read it through several times - but don't expect perfection. 
The more interesting the article is, the more people will read and remember it.
The best ezine articles are between 300 and 750 words long. I have written longer articles of 1,000 to 1,250 words, and had them featured on web sites, but long articles don't fare well in ezines.  So pick your market and try to get the right length for your choice of publication.
Step 5: The Resource Box
This is the reason for writing.  The resource box is the 4 -7 lines that sits on the end of the article.  The format should be as:
• Your Copyrights
• 2-4 lines about your expertise. You can usually include up to 3 hyperlinks.  Affiliate links are generally not allowed - so give your web site address.
• The terms of using your article - the expression "You may print this article without charge, provided this resource box remains intact."
Now that is it.

Adwords Killer is another very popular Adwords guide that hit the market recently. This is my unbiased and critical Adwords Killer Review that will tell you exactly what you will find inside - and what you won't.

Unless you have been living under a rock you know that there are dozes of Adwords Guides out there. All of them promise you that you can make a fortune. What I don't like is that you keep reading the same stuff over and over - sometimes basics that you could get for free on the tutorial pages of Google Adwords.

Other Adwords books that I had previously bought include Google Cash, Adwords Miracle, Affiliate Project X, Day job killer, Adwordelite and The Definitive Guide to Google Adwords by Perry Marshall. If you add up the price for all of them you know I spent a lot of money.

So my million dollar question really is: Does Adwords Killer offer any new tricks or strategies that you haven't seen yet in any other guides or is it just the usual stuff (Split-testing ads, Tight ad-grouping etc.)?

Adwords Killer has 81 pages and it does cover some of the basics, but the major part of the guide consists of new and innovative tactics that cannot be found in other books. Maybe that's because the other authors preferred to keep those tricks for themselves – maybe it is because they were not aware of them. I don't know.

So what does Adwords Killer cover what other Adwords Guides don't?

Negative Keywords

This is one of the highlights of the book. Everybody tells you to include the negative keyword –free in your ads. Adwords Killer goes far beyond that. The author gives you a comprehensive list of 47 negative keywords that have statistically proven to make campaigns unprofitable. Most of them I had never considered. But once you think about it – it seems so obvious. He also tells you exactly when and how to use negative keywords and how to avoid a common mistake many people make when using negative keyword phrases consisting of more than one word.

Campaign Tuning

Campaign Tuning means you constantly improve your campaigns to make them better and more profitable over time. This is something that others don't mention at all – although the very popular Adwords Miracle does tell you a little about campaign tuning but not enough.

Adwords Killer tells you how to use advanced keyword tracking using log files – which only applies if you have your own landing page - and how to know if a campaign has reached its maximum profit potential. This is something that really made me totally turn around some of my campaigns. One of my campaigns that was losing money before now makes $25 each and every day.

CPC Kill Technique for Campaign Defense

Recently certain Adwords products have started to show you how to nuke or steal other people's campaigns. Adwords Killer is the first guide to show you how to protect an evil advertiser from stealing your keywords and attacking your campaign. This will become more and more important since too many advertisers out there just try to spot a profitable niche and then just copy your ad. The CPC Kill Technique tells you exactly how to keep other advertisers out of a niche that you have occupied and that you want to keep it for yourself.

Site Targeting Secrets

This was completely new for me. I must admit that I had always switched off the content network, like most of the other gurus said and focused only on keyword targeting. This section alone for me was worth the price of Adwords Killer many times over since it tells you exactly how to use the site targeting feature to make a $10 per day campaign into a 50$ per day campaign. The good thing: As with site targeting there is almost no competition out there yet, so up to this point this is easy money.

Bidding Secrets and Position Preference

Adwords Killer shows you a method to outbid any competitor only spending the minimum amount of cash. More important it shows you how to use the position preference feature from Adwords (rarely used by anyone) to maximize your conversions. Yes, I knew that it was no good to be in the number one position for a keyword, because you get too many people who click out of curiosity but don't buy. What surprised me was the exact position your ad should be in to get fewer clicks but much higher conversions.

I would recommend Adwords Killer if you are already a little familiar with Google Adwords and are looking for more powerful tactics to boost your profits or if you currently have some Adwords campaigns running that are unprofitable. If you are a total newbie, don't buy this book – if you are already familiar with Adwords – Adwords Killer will turn you into an experienced Adwords advertiser that 99% of other advertisers cannot compete with. Even if you are very experienced like I am Adwords Killer will have some tricks that you didn't know. Applying only one of them can pay the price of the book many times over.

The use of these advanced tactics is what can separate a winning campaign from a losing one and an affiliate marketer who makes some money from an Adwords Pro who makes a killing.

Honestly I would not want to compete in a niche with another advertiser who uses the tricks laid out in Adwords Killer.

1. Unique Page Titles.

Take a look at a selection of web pages that come up high in the search engine results for any search term and you'll notice they all have one thing in common: unique page titles. Denoted by in HTML, page titles tell the search engines what your web page is about, and are thought to be a critical factor in how search engines determine the order in which pages are displayed in the search engine result pages (SERPS) for a specific search term.

2. Descriptive Keyword Links.

How do search engines find and index your site? They follow links from one page to another, indexing content as they go. If the links they follow contain keywords and phrases that are relevant to the page content, the search engines will boost the ranking of that page in their results. You should also use keywords and phrases in the site's navigation (menu), as those terms are (or should be) highly relevant for the page they link to.

3. Keywords in Your On-page Copy.

If you want the search engines to know what your page is about, and rank it appropriately, you must scatter keywords throughout your on-page copy. Keywords in your copy establish your site's relevance for words searchers use when they're looking for your product or service.

4. Clean, Accessible Website Design.

Messy, bloated HTML code, 404 errors, re-directs, too many graphics, content hiding behind forms etc., all hinder the search engines' ability to index your site. And if they can't index it, they can't rank it. Follow W3C's accessibility guidelines when building your website. Better yet, ask your website designer what he knows about standards compliant website design. If he or she can't answer, find someone who can.

5. Focused Site Topic.

It seems logical that the more focused your site is, the higher it will rank for related search terms. For example, a site that is focused on the sale of exercise mini-trampolines will probably do better for the search term "mini trampolines" than a site that tries to sell a number of unrelated or a selection of different exercise equipment. In addition, it makes sense to create specialty websites whenever possible. That way, you don't fall into the trap of trying to do too many things and end up doing none of them well.

6. Relevant Incoming Links.

The number of other sites that link to your site's pages is important but the quality of those sites, and the text used in the link, carries much more weight with the search engines. For example, one relevant link from an "authority" site such as a .org, .gov, or a site that's proven itself as a reliable source, provides more value than several links from unrelated or "unproven" sites.

Of course, there are other several other factors that go into determining a site's ranking (far too many to go into here) but these are some of the most important.

They're all easy to implement, so there's really no excuse for not taking advantage of them especially if you want to make sure your site is found and visited by as many people as possible. Then all you'll need to worry about is getting those people to buy something from you on a frequent basis.

Edison was a single father for a time and knew what it was like to provide for his family in difficult times. His first wife, Mary, died thirteen years after they married.

At the end of Edison's life he held more than 1,000 patents for various inventions and improvements he brought to the world. Some were little remembered while others are part of a well-recited legacy.

This inventor was a consummate entrepreneur. He could see existing products and find ways to make them better. He found better uses for existing products with a few alterations and he steadfastly refused to give up in the face of adversity.

Not all of his contemporaries found Edison to be an appropriate poster child for scientific exploration and success. Nikola Tesla, a contemporary of Edison's said following the death of the inventor, "I was almost a sorry witness of his doings, knowing that just a little theory and calculation would have saved him 90 per cent of the labor. But he had a veritable contempt for book learning and mathematical knowledge, trusting himself entirely to his inventor's instinct and practical American sense."

What Edison may not have known in education was made up for in dogged determination – something he owned in abundance. Edison did not let that which he did not know affect that which he wanted to accomplish. Edison's life is an incredible object lesson for those involved in entrepreneurialism today. Never let difficulties deter you from seeking a new solution, never let road blocks stop you from checking new routes and always envision where you want to be so when you get there you will not be surprised.

Edison learned what most of us only dare to hope – following a passionate pursuit of life often yields its own rewards.
